Hey Peeps,
I hope you're all ok! Well it's now under 2 weeks until my show! aargh! I am nervous - to put it lightly! The night before my show I'm actually going out (crazy?)...but a friend of mine who is a successful fashion and beauty writer is having a party (not really sure what to call it??) which I am lucky enough to be on the guest list of! I'm really looking forward to this and I think it will be a good time to relax and socialise before I have to put my game face on and perform! You can access her amazing blog at:

Anyway, as normal, I spent my day, dreaming at work. I was thinking about Simon Cowell and what really makes him so special? This man is at the epicentre of the music industry, how did he get there? Did he just fall in to the role that he does now? Or did he get knocked back by company after company but still had the determination to succeed? Well I'm going to find out!
I have always had nothing but admiration for this character, yes he is rude and yes he is blunt. But, music isn't fluffy clouds and candyfloss, it is rejection, it is hard work and tough skins!
Simon was bought up in Elstee in Hertfordshire and his dad was a music industry producer (pass #1). He got some standard grades and moved around a few jobs including acting as a runner on the film 'The Shining'. (ok fair enough he may have got this himself!) Ah here we go, he didn't get on with bosses or colleagues - he obviously showed early signs of this hard headed man we know today!...so his dad got him a job (albeit) in the mail room at, wait for it, EMI Music Publishing (pass #2)! "Hello Son, he is your career handed to you on a plate" "why thank you dad"! Don't we all wish our dads gave us that opportunity?!
It gets better.
He then became assistant to the labels A&R (artists and repertoire) man. Simon worked his way up (I am not knocking that he was obviously good at these jobs), and ended up being promoted to work on music publishing. Simon let EMI and worked with an host of other well known industry professionals. This includes Pete Waterman who he started working for at Fanfare Records. During this time he met his still good friend Sinitta. Fanfare hit troubled times, Cowell moved in with his parents and Fanfare records was forced in to the hands of BMG - who Simon subsequently became their A&R consultant.
Simon set up Syco (which owns the majority of talent competitions on our tele) and continues to work for Sony BMG and Sony Music Entertainment. He's had hits with the majority of people in our charts in some way or another and rules our Saturday night television.
All that aside. I love Simon Cowell. I can't deny it. He knows his stuff and I'll give him his dues he is extremely good at it...but come on, his dad worked at EMI. It's the same thing as you taking over your parents family business. It's just comes to some people, and others it doesn't.
So after reading about how Simon's life panned out for him, I realise I'm still sitting here day dreaming. Somethings changed though, although I've always known how determined I am and how much I try to make things happen for me (because lets face it, no one else does it for you) - I know it's possible.
If he can do it, so can I...
