*Something's Gotta Give*

Dear Diary,

So tonight I'm going to a netball presentation for the team I used to play for. I've played netball for nearly 3 years with a truly talented team, Enigma. About 4 months ago, I was in the position where I had to travel up to London a couple of nights a week to write and record my music and it was getting too much having to split my time for all the activities that I undertook. Being captain, I kind of needed to be there and show the team that I was committed. After a lot of tears and going back on my decision, I had to let the team know that I unfortunately would have to "retire" for a few months to concentrate on my singing. The girls were sooo supportive and have continued growing as a team and going from strength to strength and I am really looking forward to seeing them all again tonight and catching up.

It was a hard decision making the choice to take a break from netball, but I had to put my life in to perspective. I knew I wanted to sing, so therefore I needed to focus all my energy in to that. It's a tough decision but at some point in everyones life "somethings gotta give".

I'll add to this tomorrow...hopefully a few trophies heavier and accompanied by a few empty wine bottles! hehe.

Until tomorrow,

Yazi May x

Last night was a REALLLLY good night! Naturally, I think the many jagerbombs and bottles of wine were probably a bit much - but I had so much fun! Chris Solly (Charlton Footballer) was giving out the awards...and my boyf is a MASSIVE supporter - so ofcourse I took a picture...check it out ....

Off out with the girlies tonight, after watching the amazingly talented Amy-Jo singing in a local show. Photoshoot tomorrow to promote a show I am doing with divalicious...hmm what to wear!

Isit WHO you know or WHAT you know?

Hey,

So I've often wondered whether the saying "Isit WHO you know or WHAT you know?" true? I personally think that to a degree it is true. Don't get me wrong, I think the people who have found success through an already success full family member are talented - I just think the journey to them getting there was probably a lot easier than the average person trying to crack the music industry.

I had the pleasure of seeing the amazing Dionne Bromfield at this years V-festival and she was fantastic. But I do wonder would she have been given the same opportunity if she hadn't been surrounded by her extremely talented god mother Amy Winehouse's contacts and support?

Please don't read this as a massive rant to you all that I wasn't born in to stardom, and that I'm jealous that I haven't had my career handed to me on a plate. I love the journey I am taking at the moment and I truly believe that it will make me who I am. It will make me appreciate every day that I can perform in front of people as I will know that I made it happen.

As I said before, I do believe it it as much who you know, rather than what you know. I've worked with some people who have worked with some well known artists, but I don't want to get in to the "name dropping" game. Although, in the future if someone wants to name drop me - go for it! I would personally think that it would be a massive compliment.

I want people to know me for me. I want to be known as the girl who grew up in the country with her mum and sister. I want to be known as the girl who is surrounded by amazing friends. I want to be known as the girl who can write sh*t hot music and the girl who can perform them with confidence. This is me. No help from a auntie who has success full chart hits or a father who is known for his music to.

I will get there. I have to get there.

Thanks,

Yazi May xxx

My headshots with ...Stevie T Photography

**Click**Click*Click**

This was all I heard when I was having my headshots done recently! I was soooo embarrassed to start with - it was awkward someone getting really close to me to capture every curve and every freckle on my face!....long story short though - I ENDED UP LOVING IT!!

This local photographer really had a way of making me feel at ease and relaxing in front of his camera - as well as his desirable rates! I got a copy of ALL the photos he took of me - as well as the edited versions. I was amazed at how they turned out. He was good. Very good.

I am definitely going to get some more done from him...I'm going to go for the au naturelle look, outside, in the country - I'm thinking near my rural house by the sea....hmmm.

Here a few photos from my shoot...

An evening with....

Morning!

So, exciting news! Myself and my friend have wanted to put on our own performance for some time now (she is also an aspiring artists) and we have been given the go ahead!! Yaaay!!

We have decided to put it on around Valentines Day....yes so we can belt out a good love song!

We are holding it at a local heritage centre that used to be a music hall back in the day, and they are trying to change it back to its original use. It's going to be a very intimate gig, so tickets are limited!!

We are going to start selling the tickets after the new year....so remember to order yours! To take a look at the venue we have chosen, click on the following link...

I've not been very well recently :-( It's never good for a singer to get a cold/illness as it kind of affects the part of our body we rely on the most! Our voice!! So yes, for the past week or so the singing has taken a back seat. I am recovering though and trying to get myself better so I can get out there on to the music scene and make people know my name :-)

Speak soon,

** Dream ** Believe ** Achieve **

I GOT IN!!!!

Yesterday I found out that I have been accepted in to Vocal Tech.... I am a very happy girl right now!! I'm trying to sort it all out so I can join in the April intake of the Diploma in Commercial Music Performance. I will then go on to get my Bmus Degree :-) eeeek so excited!!

Another good thing about going to uni is that it gives me more time to work with Downtown Artists (more to come on them later...) so I can focus on my writing and hopefully getting a bit further in my career.

I am currently looking for a sponsor to help me through my first year whilst I do the diploma. I have offered companies (including music shops and music school) the chance to contribute towards my fees in return for me promoting their company and business by wearing their logo on my clothes and when I do a gig, marketing their company that way. Like I said in an earlier blog...exposure is priceless!! So hopefully some companies will come forward and see the good business opportunity here; that I am giving them the chance to have their company name plastered everywhere that I touch. And I am certainly a girl to my word!

If you know anyone who would be interested in this proposition, please ask them to email me at Yazi_May@hotmail.co.uk

So, the move to the city is certainly going to happen!!...watch out London...HERE I COME :-)

Until next time diary,

Friends are here to comfort you...

Dear Diary,

So I had my Uni audition today...I think it went well :-) - I'll let you all know as soon as I know, but I got very positive feedback so eeeek I'm excited :-)

Today could potentially have been the start of the rest of my life. All my amazing friends (and family) have been sooooo supportive through all of this, I was worried about telling them I wanted to go to university because we are such a close group I didn't know how they would react. I had no reason to be nervous. Everyone has been amazing and really encouraging of my dreams and I love them soo much.

I wrote my first single, One For You, with every person that means something to me in mind. But I hope that everyone who listens to it will be able to relate to it. I wouldn't be who I am today without my friends and family. And you wouldn't be who you are today without yours. Remember that.

I think with it being Rememberence Sunday tomorrow, it signifies that nothings forever and we all do what we can to protect the people we love, and I think remembering the fallen who gave their lives to protect us is such an honourable thing to do.

With that in mind, I think it would be suitable for me to dedicate my first song, One For You, to all the soldiers, war hero's, veterans and youngsters fighting for our freedom to this day.

This One's For You...

Have you ever made, a choice that changed your life?

Dear Diary,

So, I have made the decision to go to university! I know this will change a lot of things in my life, but it's something that I've always wanted to do. Luckily I have a group of people around me who are so supportive and will encourage me in my decision.

I've booked in an assessment with the university in London for THIS SATURDAY!! I know, I haven't given my self much time to prepare, but I'm just soooo excited! I would love to do the Music Degree but I may have to do the Diploma first....I'll see what is said on Saturday.

I need to prepare the absolute classic, Stevie Wonder - Isn't she Lovely and a contrasting song of my own choice. I'm not sure whether to sing my own track and show myself as an accomplished songwriter or to do a cover?

I'm having a lesson tonight with my vocal coach as a refresher for all my scales and arpeggios and of course to make sure my singing is pitch perfect!!

Vocal Tech is one of the industries leading universities and I feel it will really give me the experience and knowledge to succeed. They have an amazing Alumni, one which I would hope to be part of one day.

Check it out  http://www.techmusicschool.co.uk/index.php

Of course this would mean having to relocate...but I'm ready :-)

Where do I begin?

So, here I am, the first installment of my diary as an unsigned singer. Where do I begin? I was at this same point when I started writing my first song. I took it back to basics...

"Where do I begin, to tell you how I feel?
How do I write, you a song that's real?"

The aim of my diary is to show and inspire all the unsigned singers that you can achieve what you want. With hard work and determination your dreams can come true. I'm going to work so hard to make my career successful and I am going to use every opportunity and every person I meet to my advantage...I do not mean by stepping on people to get further up the ladder, that's not what I'm about, I mean why let an opportunity pass when that could have been the key to success?

"This is for you, for a dream you can achieve
This is for you, for making me believe
This one's for you, this one's for you
For making my dreams come true"

I'm going to make people notice me, I don't want to be second best anymore. I'm going to explore all the different avenues of breaking in to the one of the hardest industries in the world. As a vocal coach, I will also give tips and techniques along the way.

We're in for a long ride, but I promise to share every step of my journey with you...

With Love,

Yazi May x
